THE MASTER’S MESSAGE
Brethren:
Fraternal greetings to all my Brothers of Lancaster Lodge 104 F&AM, as we move from January into February we will see the temperatures outside continue to dip and frost may form from time to time outside our windows. My Brothers, let us never let the frost of uncaring cover our hearts as we live our daily lives as Men and Masons. Please remember, this is your lodge. Your presence is always welcomed and appreciated.
This month, we will notice on our calendars that February has the holiday of President’s Day. When I was a boy in school, we still celebrated Washington’s Birthday as one of our school recognized holidays. I recall the lessons which we were taught about the character of that man, the general who fought for our independence and became our 1st president. My teachers taught me that George Washington was the most revered man in American history.
The perseverance of General George Washington held together our Armies during our War of Independence, when the outcome of that war was still in doubt. President George Washington held our country together in those early years when our future was still uncertain. Brother George Washington saw beyond himself and worked for the future of this Great Country. Let us always remember and honor those men who we call our Founding Fathers for what they willingly sacrificed so we might enjoy these wonderful freedoms that some take for granted.
Fraternally thine, Johnny Yates, Master

FREEMASONS IN HISTORY
George Washington
February 22nd marks the birthday of the 1st President of our United States of America. Brother George Washington was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on November 4, 1752 at Fredericksburg Lodge #4 in Fredericksburg, VA. He was the first Master of what is now Alexandria-Washington Lodge #22 in Alexandria, VA.
“I shall always be happy to advance the interests of the Society,
and to be considered by them as a deserving Brother.”
Brother George Washington

Rough & Perfect Ashlars
The candidate must have the potential to both serve and support the Fraternity. He must be carefully inspected, just as each Rough Ashlar is inspected for quality in order to be able to "fit" him into Freemasonry's tenets and goals, which are compatible to God's laws. An imperfect stone may be made perfect, however major flaws are difficult to overcome and when assembled into a structure, the entire structure can be weakened from its improper use. This is as true of men as it is of stones.

Who is wise? He that learns from everyone.
Who is powerful? He that governs his passions.
